What is Voice Therapy?
· It’s a unique method of self-development, liberating the full range, resonance, power and potential of your authentic voice.
· The right to speak is everyone’s right; but for some outer and inner tension blocks their ability to communicate. Through voice work these holds can be unblocked as we learn to use our instruments more effectively.
· It aims to release the natural as opposed to the habitual voice; promoting understanding and subsequent release of vocal habits.
· Works gently but dynamically with the body through breath, movement, imagination, sound and song, the work energises and liberates the voice.
· It is individualised, there is no universal fixed method.
What happens in a session?
You will be taken on a progressive journey towards (there are no quick fixes!) freeing up your vocal instrument from habitual restrictions; using a variety of methods including:
· Sensory awareness and control of the body and voice; with an emphasis on the physical sensations associated with producing sound.
· Utilising the rhythm of language to physically shift speech from head (intellect) to body.
· Utilising the flow and musicality of speech to release breath.
· Freeing sounds through feeling patterns of resonance, thus by-passing the intellect with it’s old patterns of conditioning.
· Emphasis on whole body expression; deflecting focus away from physical stasis points, such as speech organs and throat.
· Connection voice to body through movement, removing blocks to self-expression and encouraging spontaneity.
· Experiencing language pictorially through the imagination.
The work will involve some if not all of the following dramatic tools:
· Singing/chanting
· Dramatic texts
· Poetry
· Rapping/MCing
· Chorus speaking
· Puppetry/mask work
